Over three days Michael and the competent team from SBI Ltd achieved what three other carport/canopy companies could not or would not do. The removal of the existing car port on the first day was a challenge especially during the inclement weather. The installation of the lovely new car port and roller shutter garage door was completed over the following two days and their workmanship was second to none. If your carport has started to leak. It will normally be where it is attached to the building. Sealant and flash-bands are used in the construction of the carport to seal them. Over a period of time these will wear and need to be replaced. In some instance’s they can be easy issues to fix with some sealant. If your Awning needs repairing, here’s what we recommend you do.
- Identify what model of awning you have. (Check your paperwork or take some pictures or a video of the awning)
- Let us know the size of the awning or tell us how many arms it has.
- Take a picture of the front and back of the remote control you use to open and close the awning with.
- Let us know if it has any sensors, for instance, sun and wind or rain sensors.

IF YOUR AWNING IS OUT OF WARRANTY WE RECOMMEND CHANGING THE MOTOR & REMOTE!
- The reason we recommend this course of action is if we can still get parts and service your awning.
- It is well worth maintaining it as replacing with new will cost thousands of pounds.
- If your motor is still working there will be a day in the future when it stops.
- Normally you don’t get any warning that the motor is going to stop working it just STOPS!
- Over the years we have found that the awning is normally fully extended when this happens.
- The problem you then face is how are you going to CLOSE the awning? The answer is your not!
- Thomas Sanderson Awnings do not have a manual override fitted to the awnings.
- You can’t simply wind it away if the motor fails or there is a power cut.

Lack of Maintenance is Leading Cause of Awning Repair
The example above of this awning in need of repair shows what can happen when an awning is not maintained properly. This client got in touch as she had moved home and inherited this awning.
Placing additional loads on the awning by hanging objects from it or anchoring ropes can cause damage or the awning to fail, and they are therefore not permissible.

The awning needs a steeper angle as it helps the rainwater run off the cover.
A steeper angle will also help the awning not to bounce around as much in windier conditions.
Our installers open the awning to test the inward and outward limits are set correctly.
The electric motor is also checked along with the controls and sensors.
On completion of the work, we will issue you with a dated service certificate for your records.
SBI’s installers wash the awning with a LOW-PRESSURE washer.
Cleaning the awning cover entails applying chemical cleaning solutions to the cover and valance.
Please note do-not have the cover cleaned with high-pressure washers as this can damage the cover!
One of the weakest parts of the cover is the stitching and this can break if a high-pressure washer is used.
SBI clean the aluminium elements at least once a year – and even more often if heavily soiled.
To do so, we use clean water only, which may also contain minor amounts of neutral or very weak alkaline detergents.
